Golder College Prep requires that all students complete community service hours. In doing so we not only provide a service to others in need, but we are also demonstrating an appreciation for the community that supports us. Community service is defined as an activity or event in which you are involved in work that serves the community as supervised by an approved non-profit or government agency. The act or event must have a direct, positive impact on community.
Requirement. In order to pass this requirement, students are expected to complete a minimum of 80 community service hours according to the benchmarks outlined below. All hours must be completed at a pre-approved site or project.
Pre-Approval. Golder College Prep has an existing list of over 30 sites that are approved for students to do community service. In order to have a site approved, you must submit to the main office the name of the site, name of the supervisor, and a telephone number at least one week prior to the start of the service. Without a week's notice, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to make contact with the supervisors. Once a new site is approved, the advisor will be notified. Students cannot do service at a site until they are informed by the main office that the site was approved. This approval will be communicated through the advisor.
Site Minimum. It is important that Golder students become familiar with different service opportunities and sites. In order for service to count for the year, students must serve at a minimum of four approved sites or trips for at least one hour at each site. Failure to serve at a minimum of four sites or trips will result in course failure. Seniors cannot serve at Noble Street or the Northwestern University Settlement House.
